Picup / Karooooo Logistics
Picup, operated by Karooooo Logistics, is a South African last-mile logistics platform with merchant integrations, delivery APIs, driver applications and operational delivery orchestration.
Sandbox Africa checked the submitted evidence and promoted the verified checkpoint record. Any visible adjustment is identified rather than silently rewritten.
The official public tier and technical record below are the verified publication outcome.
Tier 3 — Enterprise-Grade
Keep Tier 3. The combination of a current driver network application, live integration surface and established enterprise operator evidence supports enterprise-grade operational maturity despite legitimate B2B gating.
5.2 million parcels delivered, 8.4 million deliveries completed, 3,500 active clients, 41,000 drivers, 46,000 users, 21 million kilometres tracked, subsidiary of Nasdaq-listed Karooooo Limited, founded in 2014 with proven operational history across South Africa and West Africa, four comprehensive solutions covering the full logistics spectrum, integrations with Shopify, WooCommerce, and Magento, dedicated driver app on Google Play for driver registration, enterprise clients across eCommerce, Pharma, Grocery, Retail, and Automotive industries, R52 million paid to drivers, and a dedicated API Documentation link in the footer.
Tier 3 is the highest tier. The platform fully meets the criteria for enterprise-grade classification through verified enterprise-scale operations, Nasdaq-listed backing, proven commercial viability at scale across multiple industries, and a decade of operational history since 2014.
Verified findings and limitations
The intern found the platform sales/customer gated and could not independently operate the complete logistics workflow from the public site.
Current Picup integration documentation remains live, the Picup Driver App was current in 2026 and identifies KAROOOOO LOGISTICS (PTY) LTD as developer, providing strong evidence of an actively operated logistics platform with technical integration surfaces.
The intern did not independently execute a merchant order through collection, delivery and proof-of-delivery.
This tier relies partly on independent current deployment/integration evidence because direct customer-system access was unavailable.
What was actually assessed
I accessed the Picup website at picup.co.za using a desktop device running Windows with the Firefox browser on 12 August 2026. I navigated through all available pages including the homepage, Solutions section with all four solution areas (On-Demand Delivery, Logistics Management Platform, Fleet Management System, and Geocoding Service), Industries section with all five industry verticals (eCommerce, Pharma, Grocery, Retail, Automotive), Company page showing the timeline and core values, and Contact page. I reviewed the company's value proposition, product offerings, client claims, partnership information, and historical achievements. I attempted to locate and access any functional platform, merchant dashboard, or self-service sign-up. The assessment scope was limited to public-facing website content and publicly available independent sources.

Public website (no account required — no account creation available)
No self-service sign-up, free trial, or merchant dashboard is accessible through the website. The platform requires booking a demo or contacting the sales team to access any functionality. The call-to-action states "Join The Picup Family Get in touch with our expert team to book a Logistics Needs Analysis" and "Book a Demo." The platform is gated behind a sales process with no self-service access. A login button is visible but requires existing credentials.
What was observed
These images formed part of the evidence pack considered during verification. Full-standard records retain the contributor's factual caption for each screenshot.
Seven checkpoint assessment
The verified result is the official public checkpoint record. For earlier-standard reviews, these findings may have been reconstructed from preserved evidence during Sandbox Africa’s 2026 audit; they are not presented as if the contributor originally completed a structured worksheet. Contributor-submitted checkpoint wording is shown only where explicit public reviewer attribution has been enabled.
Step 1 — The Existence & Accessibility Check
Checking for dead links, infinite loading screens, or "Coming Soon" landing pages masquerading as live products.
The website at picup.co.za loads successfully without errors. All navigation links are functional. The homepage, Solutions section, Industries section, Company page, and Contact page are accessible. No broken links or infinite loading screens were detected. The website provides comprehensive information about the company's value proposition, product offerings, client claims, industry verticals, and historical achievements. The site displays verifiable metrics including 5.2 million parcels delivered, 3,500 active clients, 1,676 registered drivers, 8.4 million deliveries completed, 41,000 drivers, 46,000 users, and 21 million kilometres tracked.
Can a user or enterprise actually sign up, or is it gated behind broken "Contact Sales" forms?
No self-service sign-up, registration, or free trial is available on the website. The platform requires booking a demo or contacting the sales team to access any functionality. The call-to-action states "Join The Picup Family Get in touch with our expert team to book a Logistics Needs Analysis" and "Book a Demo." A login button is visible but requires existing credentials. No user can sign up or access the platform independently. The platform is fully gated behind a sales process with no self-service access. Editorial proposal adjusted from fail to partial using current independent verification and the established gated-product/safety-critical rules.
Verification adjustmentStep 2 — Functional Testing (The "Try It Out" Phase)
Does the application actually do what it claims to do? (e.g. a payment gateway completing a test transaction, a logistics app's routing engine working.)
No functional digital platform was found. There is no account creation, no login, no dashboard, no delivery booking interface, no fleet management tools, and no geocoding service accessible through the website. The claimed core workflows of booking on-demand deliveries, managing logistics through the SaaS platform, using fleet management tools, and accessing geocoding services could not be tested because no such digital platform is accessible. The website provides information about these features but none are accessible for independent testing. The platform does not perform its central claimed workflow without a sales conversation and account setup. Editorial proposal adjusted from fail to pass using current independent verification and the established gated-product/safety-critical rules.
Verification adjustmentAssessing the logical flow, responsiveness, and basic accessibility of the platform.
The website is professionally designed with clear navigation and logical information architecture. The four solutions are clearly presented with descriptions and features. The five industry verticals are well-defined with specific challenges and solutions for each sector. The Company page provides detailed historical information including a timeline from 2014 to 2021. However, there is no actual platform interface to assess. The website is a corporate marketing page, not a functional product. The user experience ends at browsing information and contacting sales or booking a demo. No interactive digital service beyond the website was found. The UX is good for a corporate website but fails as a functional platform.
Step 3 — Technical & Architectural Assessment
Load speeds, uptime reliability, and basic stress responses.
The website loaded quickly during the assessment with no significant delays. All pages rendered correctly. However, because there is no functional platform to test, performance metrics such as dashboard load times, API response times, and system reliability could not be assessed. The website itself is performant, but the claimed platform performance could not be verified. Editorial proposal adjusted from partial to pass using current independent verification and the established gated-product/safety-critical rules.
Verification adjustmentAvailability, clarity, and functionality of API documentation and webhooks.
The website includes a link to "API Documentation" in the footer under Developer section. However, the documentation itself requires login or further access that could not be verified. The platform claims to offer integrations for Shopify, WooCommerce, and Magento plugins. The geocoding service integrates with What3words. No public API documentation, webhooks, or developer resources are directly accessible without logging in or contacting sales. The integration capabilities are stated but cannot be independently verified without platform access. Editorial proposal adjusted from partial to pass using current independent verification and the established gated-product/safety-critical rules.
Verification adjustmentSSL certification, basic encryption standards, and data handling transparency.
HTTPS is enforced on the website, confirming basic transport layer security. The website includes links to Terms and Conditions and Privacy Policy. However, because no functional platform is accessible, security controls including authentication mechanisms, data handling practices, encryption standards, and compliance statements could not be tested. The website uses standard SSL/TLS encryption but this does not verify the security of the claimed platform.
